There are few words to describe the astonishing knowledge, service, humour, and prudence of this wonderful man. Nathan was able to sketch a grand narrative of the Great War which may be unequalled. After tracing the geopolitical roots of the conflict to as far back as the early 19 century, he dazzled us with an astonishing tour of the battlefield from the perspectives of the Allies and Central Powers alike. Our expectations were far exceeded. We are truly grateful to have visited the sites which defined Canada as a nation with such a worldly individual. Thank you Nathan! Best wishes on your future endeavours!

Nathan, thank you for a very informative visit to battlefields on 04/04/2013. My husband and daughters found the whole day to be very interesting and we enjoyed the sunshine and food in the restaurant.

We recommend this trip to anyone who is visiting Bruges, who wants to take a step back into such a traumatic era of history. It will change the way you think about both WW1 and WW2.

What a brilliant, evocative and moving experience! We went on the evening tour with Nathan. His commentary brought the battlefield to life in a way that wouldn’t have happened if we had taken the trip independently. I’d recommend the evening trip as it is very quiet - we were the only people in the cemetery. The last post ceremony is a moving, unforgettable experience. This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Belgium. I wish now that we had time to do the full day tour!

We did the full day tour on 24 March 2013 in rather inclememt weather conditions. Carl was our tour guide and we had an excellent day. Carl’s commentary was not just very informative, but his passion for recalling historical events was superb. We both learnt so much more than what you could ever glean from history books and Carl’s commentary brought the historical chain of events of WW1 into stark focus as well as linking events of the past to being the foundation for shaping today’s political world. We would thoroughly recommend this tour.

We took the tour on 19 March and we found it to be an informative and unforgettable experience. Nathan’s knowledge of the Flanders Fields campaign is incredible and is delivered in a thoroughly engaging manner. Although the weather started grey and cold, perhaps reflective of the events that took place there almost a century ago, the day ended in warm sunshine.

The tour is conducted at a comfortable pace although taking in many stop-offs and Nathan is more than happy to accommodate specific requests. Together with a delicious lunch this is a tour more than worth the very reasonable charge.

Thank you Nathan and may many more people experience your hospitable nature and incredible knowledge.
